Our mission

At Twisted Tree Publishing, our mission is to empower independent authors by providing transparent, author-focused services. We strive to safeguard creative control, protect intellectual property rights, and support every writer’s journey with integrity and expertise so authors can freely share their stories and benefit fully from their work.

Our vision

We envision a publishing landscape in which all authors have fair opportunities to publish their works, free from predatory practice. Through innovation collaboration, and unwavering advocacy, we aim to reshape the industry into one that celebrates creativity, respects author autonomy, and fosters meaningful connections between writers and readers worldwide.

Hello! I’m Jacob, founder of Twisted Tree Publishing.

I started this company with one goal in mind: Empower independent authors. When I set out to publish my first book, I discovered a landscape filled with confusing, often conflicting information and, worse, predatory agencies eager to exploit new writers. I knew there had to be a better way.

As a self-published author, retaining full rights to my work was essential. While immersing myself in the author community, I saw firsthand how many writers were taken advantage of and prevented from truly benefiting from their hard-earned creations. Determined to break that cycle, I spent a year researching the best publishing tools and resources, taking classes, and surveying fellow authors to learn what they truly needed from a hybrid publisher.

The result is Twisted Tree Publishing: a company built by authors, for authors. Our mission is to provide transparent, author-focused services that give you complete control over your work. No more signing away rights for minimal royalties, no more endless waiting for feedback, and no more hoping someone will give your story a chance.

At Twisted Tree Publishing, we’re here to help perfect your manuscript, guide you through the entire publishing process, and share the wisdom we’ve gained along the way. We believe every writer deserves fair treatment, creative freedom, and the full rewards of their efforts. Join us and let’s reshape the future of publishing together.

The Three Types of Publishing

If you’re an aspiring writer, figuring out how to submit your manuscript can be a daunting step. Understanding the different routes, traditional publishing, self-publishing, and hybrid publishing, is essential for making the right decision.

Traditional Publishing

Traditional publishing generally involves searching for a literary agent, who will then pitch your manuscript to publishing houses. Although publishers typically cover editing, printing, and distribution costs, they also take the bulk of the royalties. Authors may receive an advance, but any additional earnings are paid only after that advance has been recouped. The process can be slow, often taking well over a year before your book appears on shelves, and authors may have limited control over cover design and marketing.

Challenges of Traditional Publishing
  • Securing a literary agent can be both lengthy and competitive.

  • Publishers often set timelines and creative decisions, resulting in less author involvement.

  • Royalty rates can be discouraging, given the time and effort invested.

Self-Publishing

For authors who want full control and a faster path to market, self-publishing may be the answer. You decide the timeline, retain all rights, and can publish nearly any kind of content, from niche topics to experimental work. Platforms like Amazon KDP make it simpler than ever to release your book independently. While this approach can be more profitable in terms of royalties, you’re also responsible for all expenses (e.g., editing, design, and marketing) and must be prepared to handle the logistical aspects of publishing on your own.

Advantages of Self-Publishing
  • Complete creative freedom, including cover design and marketing strategy.

  • A faster turnaround, sometimes within just a few months.

  • Higher potential share of royalties compared to traditional deals.

Hybrid Publishing: A Middle Ground

Hybrid publishing merges elements of both traditional and self-publishing. Although you typically pay upfront for services such as editing, marketing, and distribution, you still maintain more control than with a conventional publisher. It’s a solid option for writers seeking professional support without relinquishing all creative decisions. Keep in mind, however, that you’ll still split royalties and shoulder some expenses, which can reduce overall earnings compared to a purely self-published model.

Ultimately, choosing a publishing path comes down to your goals, resources, and desired level of control. Whether you’re attracted to the support of a traditional publisher, the independence of self-publishing, or a hybrid blend of both, understanding each approach helps you make the best decision for your manuscript.

Why Twisted Tree Publishing?

At Twisted Tree Publishing, we embrace a hybrid publishing model because it combines professional support with greater creative freedom. We empower authors to retain more control over their work, while still offering editorial, marketing, and distribution services to help each book reach its full potential.
